Betsy Turnbull

Betsy is a spiritual director, completing the Academy with Cohort 8 and the School with Cohort 4, and has been working the the Community of Spiritual Directors as their administrative hub.  Her administrative role now expands to include the Program Coordinator for the School of Spiritual Direction.  This expansion provides a single point of administrative contact for Alumni as they move through training at the School to join the Community.

Betsy has made Seattle her home for the past 20 years, and raising two boys with her husband Brian, in this vibrant outdoor haven is one of the greatest joys of her life.

At a pivotal moment in her journey, Betsy, Brian, and their then 8-month-old moved to Seattle.  Leaving behind the allure of the ever-inspiring Great Lakes, they drove west to follow a dream.  A dream to explore, discover, and create.  They were determined to build something beautiful, cultivate community, and offer a healing presence in people’s lives. This dream gradually took shape in the form of an intentional, grassroots effort that evolved into a network of spiritual communities and outreach programs they called The House.

They lived this dream for many years, experimenting, trying new things, and adapting to the needs of people living in a specific time and place.  They learned there is beauty and brokenness in everyone; they learned to see things in their depth and wholeness instead of just in parts; and they learned the only way forward is through love, reconciliation, and forgiveness.

Betsy has an undergrad in Recreation from Calvin College and a Master of Divinity from Western Theological Seminary in Holland, Michigan.  The coastline of any body of water facing west fills her soul.  She loves to exercise and be outside as much as possible, and she much prefers walking to driving and standing to sitting.  Betsy is thrilled to be part of this incredible team.
