Academy of Spiritual Formation and Direction

In today’s world of ministry, many leaders are discovering an acute need to deepen the care of their own souls in ways that lead to experiential union with Christ. Making this journey on the “being” side allows them to enter the world of “doing” with greater effectiveness and sustainability.

  • Becoming intentional about one’s own spiritual formation
  • Learning how to become a spiritual director or “soul friend” for other leaders
  • Learning how to lead a church or organization toward intentional, holistic spiritual formation

What people are saying…

“The Academy was a line in the sand. My assumptions about life and ministry were changed in a way that I would not have imagined.”

“My expectations of the whole Academy were exceeded.”

“I expected it to be all ‘head’ and it was truly integrated into mind, body, and soul.”

“God will meet you, challenge you and impact your life personally and professionally.”

“The teaching went beyond instruction to intensely personal formation.”

19th Annotation Ignatian Retreat

St. Ignatius Loyola, the founder of the Society of Jesus, was the author of the Spiritual Exercises, one of the great classics of Western Christianity. This series of prayer exercises was written over a period of years in the 16th century. It was designed to be undertaken over a 30 day period, with a director as a guide and included 5 hour long specific prayer experiences each day. In a series of annotations or notes at the beginning of the Exercises, St. Ignatius indicated that the retreat experience could be changed to accommodate the individual making the retreat. One of those notes or annotations (the 19th) indicated that if a retreatant making the exercises could not get away for 30 complete days they might make the retreat over a period of about 30 weeks, doing the 5 daily prayer experiences over the course of a week.

SoulFormation is happy to announce that we are creating the opportunity for you to make the Spiritual Exercises of St. Ignatius Loyola directed over the course of about 9 months, beginning Monday, October 2nd, 2017.

Includes:

  • Monthly meetings with your retreat director
  • Nine half-day gatherings for prayer and reflection on the Spiritual exercises and our experience in prayer (main gathering at Mosaic Church in Portland, Oregon with satellite groups in a variety of places)
  • 5 dedicated hours of time with God each week on the retreat material
